Q

Why are you guys so awesome?

Shearwater responded on 11/16/2017
A

Some things just defy explanation. (Thanks!!)

Q

When is your next album/tour?

Shearwater responded on 11/16/2017
A

Not for a while as SW, but JM's new project Loma is releasing an album in February and will be on tour soon thereafter. Check them out at http://lomatheband.com.

Q

What do you think about my photos (link below)?

They're amazing!!

Q

Are you planning to issue "The Sky Is A Blank Screen" in a physical format like vinyl or CD?

Shearwater responded on 11/16/2017
A

Not at present. Because of the covers we'd need to pay licensing fees, and without a tour on the near horizon we probably wouldn't sell enough to justify the time, effort, and money, right now. But your interest is noted!

Q

Why not reissue the rare "self released" recordings on CD again? ( or for first time in some cases ) They always sell out fast. Proof people like me still want the physical product. I hate downloads ( they require lots of time and trouble, they cost me money if I want to print out a cover, copy them to CD-R, buy a case ot sleeve to put them in.... and they are never really official or as nice. Also, that new live download should SURELY be issued on double DVD ! Region Free of course for EVERYONE.

Which recordings are you talking about? Most of the self-released recordings other than the Okkervil River split and the Missing Islands demo / outtake compilation are already pretty easily available, and those are limited by licensing and permissions by the rights holders.

The reason The Sky Is A Blank Screen didn't get a physical version is simply that CD sales are dropping, and that it's time- and especially energy-consuming to get them made and get them shipped out. We depend a lot on volunteer work from friends for shipping - the Lodger LP, with 500 copies made, was a very energy-intensive proposition - and we don't want to burn them out.

That said, we would like to make physical artifacts available whenever possible, so thank you for the encouragement!

Q

When are you playing gigs in Austin??!

Shearwater responded on 11/16/2017
A

Not for a while as SW, but JM's new project Loma will be there before you know it!

Q

Do you have plans for a Europe (in particular The Netherlands) Tour?

Shearwater responded on 11/16/2017
A

No firm SW touring plans (probably 2019 at the earliest), but JM's new project Loma (http://lomatheband.com) will be in Europe next year, and hitting the Netherlands is very likely.

Q

Are you planning to come to Australia for a concert?

Shearwater responded on 11/16/2017

We would love to, but so far circumstances have not allowed. Fingers crossed...
